CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

This exhibition is open strictly to submissions painted in Water Based Media as stated in this call for entry (See below: Overview and Conditions of Entry)

OVERVIEW

1) Allowable water media: artist's quality watercolour paint, watercolour ink, watercolour crayon, watercolour pencil, workable fixative, gouache (which can be applied transparently and opaquely). Clear wax as a resist is permissible. The use of a graphite drawing and India Ink are accepted. Transparent watercolours traditionally painted are also welcomed.

2) Not permissible: egg tempera, casein, acrylic, water based oils and archival felt pens

3) The paint surface: archival fiber paper, which includes Watercolour paper, Watercolour paper glued to wood/composite panel, Watercolour paper glued to canvas, canvas prepared for watercolour, and watercolour board. Yupo is not accepted.

4) Paintings may be protected by Varnish, Wax or Plexiglas (no glass)

5) Only media listed in the definition above are permissible. Application must be by hand, brush or any tool by the artist without digital or mechanical assistance. Airbrush is not allowed.

6) AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Computer generated artwork and/or mechanically printed images will not be accepted.

7) All styles are acceptable.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1) Artists may submit up to two images, however only one painting per applicant may be accepted for exhibitions.

2) Sales: a 40% commission is deducted from the sale price. Prices cannot be changed and must be in Canadian dollars. Artists have the option of having a work "not for sale". In this case, a value does not need to be included.

3) If artwork has been sold, shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. If the artwork has been sold, the CSPWC will contact the artist to discuss the shipping process.

4) All paintings must be original, created by the artist who is submitting, and not previously exhibited in an Open Water Exhibition.

5) Paintings must not be derivative or based on the work of others or in any way an infringement of copyright. Using stock imagery or photos taken by professional photographers is not permissible, even with permission or paid licensing.

6) Paintings must not have been created under art instruction, in a workshop, class or mentorship program.

7) Paintings must have been completed within the past three years.

8) Size of work:

  • Maximum allowed painting size is 40in x 40in (101.5cm x 101.5cm)
  • Smallest allowed painting size is 10in x14in (25.4cm x 35.56cm).
  • Sizes in between are acceptable as long as measurements conform to the allowable minimum and maximums above.

9)  Paintings must be professionally prepared for hanging. Plexiglas only (no glass). Varnished paintings will be accepted. Details will be sent to accepted artists regarding gallery guidelines.

10) If mats or liners are used, they must be white or off-white. Maximum mat size of 4 inches (10.16cm). Shipping of paintings to and from the exhibition is the responsibility of the artist. This includes shipping costs, brokerage fees and any taxes or duties payable.

11) Open Water 2023 is strictly open to submissions painted in Water Based Media, as defined in this call for entry.

12) The Jury and/or the Exhibition Chair, reserves the right not to post/exhibit any painting which does not conform to all the rules of the competition.

13) If an accepted artist withdraws their work after the adjudication, they will not be eligible to enter Open Water exhibitions for three years.

14) Entries that are accepted for exhibition will remain on display and available for sale (unless indicated as not for sale) until the end date of the exhibition on September 24, 2023.

15) Artists must carry their own insurance.

16. If your artwork has been chosen for this exhibition but has not been delivered directly to the gallery within the specified timeframe, you will be required to send it to the CSPWC office. Please note that a handling fee of $25.00 will be applied.

17. After the end date of the exhibition at Neilson Park Creative Centre, paintings will be archived in an online exhibition on the CSPWC website. The CSPWC reserves the right to remove any posted online painting at any time for any reason.

ENTRY DETAILS

This exhibition is open to any artist (18 years and older), and entry is adjudicated by digital image.

CSPWC Elected Members and Associates Submission Fee $40
Non-Member Submission $55 (Not a Member or Associate of the CSPWC)
Entry fees are non-refundable. (Canadian Dollars)

Image Requirements:
Minimum of 960 pixels (on longest side)
Maximum of 1920 pixels (on longest side)
300 dpi
maximum file size of 4 MB.

Please ensure your images are cropped to show only the painting. Do not include mats, frames or backgrounds of any kind.

Deadline for entries: July 7, 2023 (12pm NOON EST—Toronto, Ontario Canada time zone)
Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be by email beginning August 2, 2023.
Recipients of awards will be notified by September 12, 2023.

NOTE:

By submission of entry, the artist grants the CSPWC the right to use the image of the accepted work for publicity, educational and reference purposes.

By submission of entry, the artist grants the CSPWC to archive their work the CSPWC’s website.

By submission of entry, the artist agrees to all the terms and conditions of entry as per this form.
